Academic Background

James was an Army brat growing up. “I have lived in many different places and have had the opportunity to get to know and become friends with persons from all over – something that God has used extensively to open my eyes and heart to persons of different cultures and differing faiths.

He enjoys building new relationships with students and the faculty. “Many times I am the first to open the Bible from an academic perspective to new freshman. It’s a joy to be included in the students’ intellectual and spiritual growth while at AU.”

Master of Divinity, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

B.A in Religion, Mar Hill College

Associates in Liberal Arts, Anderson College

Teaching at AU

What year did you start teacing at AU?

2001

How would you describe your classes to someone who has never attended one?

When attending one of my classes, the student should come prepared as best as possible to have their understanding of the Bible deepened and hear how the application of the scriptures can be revealed both inside and outside of the classroom. The definition of ministry and the application of what is learned in the classroom are very open to the students. The College of Christian Studies is true to our goal of an academically rigorous Christian education which is intentionally practical.

A clear calling from God and the opportunity to pursue teaching in Christian higher education has allowed me to be of His service at Anderson University. The passion has not waned in the time I have been at AU to teach and lead into discipleship in the classroom the students God has led to our institution. The work is as demanding as it is rewarding to see lives touched by God’s word and to send these individuals better prepared to be of service in their years following graduation from AU.

I have the good fortune to have completed the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership School and have served as a State Constable for the state of South Carolina.
