Honoring our Veterans

Anderson University Teaching Fellows plan and host a Veterans Appreciation Breakfast each year!  We celebrate with over 100 veterans.

Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.  Each year, the Anderson University Teaching Fellows sponsor a breakfast and program.  Veterans are invited to share their experiences during their military service and what Veterans Day means to them.  The program, which recognizes the different branches of the U.S. military, also includes a guest speaker, the playing of Taps for our deceased veterans, and music that honors our military.

Our Teaching Fellows have sponsored this program for over 15 years, and each year veterans begin calling to be sure they are still on the list.  Over time, many veterans have been added, and veterans from our first years continue to attend.  Veterans may call the Teaching Fellows office to register for this event.

Our freshmen Teaching Fellows honor the veterans by holding U.S. flags down the path of the Honor Walk as the veterans are escorted by our seniors.  Our Teaching Fellows have named it the “Book Ends of Honoring our Veterans” with our freshmen and seniors participating.

In the 2021 Veterans Appreciation Breakfast, the Teaching Fellows honored Dr. Charles A. Wooten, former Director of the Teaching Fellows. Dr. Wooten, an Air Force veteran, began this appreciation breakfast to honor veterans in the mid-1990s. This special appreciation breakfast continues through his legacy.
