The South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University is welcoming back AU Repertory Theatre, an intensive three-week theatre experience for high school students.

AU Theatre Professor Robert Homer-Drummond, coordinator of AU Repertory Theatre, encourages area high school students to audition for this summer’s repertory theatre.

This summer theatre experience, nicknamed “AU Rep,” has traditionally offered a classical play and an adventure play, but Homer-Drummond says there has been interest in adding a musical; so this year students will take part in the Broadway hit “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Students will also have the opportunity to be in a production of William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” directed by Homer-Drummond. “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” will be directed by Dr. David Sollish, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance for the South Carolina School of the Arts.

AU Rep Theatre participants will learn from theatre faculty at the South Carolina School of the Arts and a select group of students. Students get an opportunity to be in both plays in some capacity or another.

Homer-Drummond adds, “They can also help out behind the scenes. We have ways they can assist in technical theatre as well. Some students might only want to be involved in technical theatre and we welcome those students also and will keep them fully involved.”

Compared to many summer camps, AU Rep is inexpensive, and students receive one hour of transferrable college credit from Anderson University. Lunch will also be provided each day by AVI Food Services, which operates the Anderson University Culinary Center. Other activities and events will include pool parties and receptions for each play.

AU Rep will take place July 10-30, 2022 in the Belk Theater of the Rainey Fine Arts Center at Anderson University. Auditions will be May 23 and 24 – 3:30 p.m. at the Belk Theater.

Interested parents or students may email rhomer-drummond@andersonuniversity.edu or call 864-328-1419. Updates will be posted on their Facebook Page as they become available.
