Dr. Cynthia Watson is newly board-certified as an orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS) by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
Specialist certification formally recognizes physical therapists who have demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and skills in a specific area of physical therapy practice. About 6 percent of practicing physical therapists in the United States have achieved this specialty certification.
Dr. Watson will be formally recognized during a ceremony at the APTA’s Combined Sections Meeting in February of 2020.
“Achieving board certification was both demanding and rewarding,” Dr. Watson said. “I wanted to accomplish this both for myself, to demonstrate proficiency in the most current concepts of orthopedic practice, and to model striving for excellence for our students.”
Anderson’s School of Physical Therapy launched with its first class this summer.
“Dr. Watson exemplifies all that we desire in our faculty in the School of Physical Therapy,” said Dr. Donald Peace, dean of the Anderson University College of Health Professions. “This recent board certification demonstrates her commitment to excellence in her field of interest within physical therapy. To obtain this certification, Dr. Watson demonstrated competency in orthopedics and provided evidence of her advanced clinical proficiency. By obtaining this certification, Dr. Watson is able to demonstrate more effectively her broad base of knowledge into our world of professional education and practice.
