Anderson University senior Georgia Harpe was honored by the South Carolina Academy of Science as having conducted one of the top undergraduate research initiatives in South Carolina for the 2012/2013 academic year.

Her paper “Antiproliferative Activity of Raspberries on Two Human Breast Cancer Cell Lines” presented at the SC Academy of Science Annual Meeting on April 13, 2013 at Benedict College was selected by the Academy’s judges for recognition as Outstanding Undergraduate Research. The Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award is sponsored by the South Carolina Academy of Science and the Charleston and Clemson Chapters of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society.

The research that was the subject of Harpe’s presentation was part of the ongoing cancer research at Anderson University’s Center for Cancer Research. The Center has been conducting experiments on the possible use of berry extracts on cancer cell lines for the past several years.
