Arlene Hutton’s play Letters to Sala will be performed in Anderson University’s Belk Theatre February 19-22. Performances will begin at 7:30 each evening with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Saturday.
The play is based on the true story of a young girl who survived the Holocaust and kept the memories of her friends and family alive by saving all the mail she received during her five years of forced labor in seven Nazi camps.
Inspiration for the play came from the book Sala’s Gift: My Mother’s Holocaust Story by Ann Kirschner, daughter of Sala. The play draws from the emotional journey following Ann’s discovery of the letters that document her mother’s painful past.
Sala relives history and Ann’s own daughters realize the weight of their Jewish history.
Sala’s letters are an important addition to Holocaust research and have been called the greatest find since Anne Frank’s diary. Letters to Sala is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for seniors and members of the military, and $5 for students of Anderson University. Call the Rainey Fine Arts Center Box Office at (864) 231-2080 for more information.
