The Music Department of the South Carolina School of the Arts will host the annual conference of the South Carolina American Choral Directors beginning Friday on the Campus of Anderson University.

The conference brings 600 singers from across the state to the campus, including 235 high school students who have auditioned for, and earned a place in the South Carolina Honors Choir. Additionally, the “All-State” choirs for elementary and middle school children in South Carolina will gather and perform after a day of expert instruction from guest clinicians. South Carolina’s intercollegiate choirs will also be a part of the weekend including the AU Choir, which will perform a number in the opening session at 1pm on Friday in Henderson Auditorium.

This weekend marks the first time since 2007 that the conference has been held on the Anderson campus and the first time ever under the banner of the South Carolina School of the Arts.

“The Executive Board is very excited about this weekend,” said Melissa Henderson, President of SCACDA. “This is our largest conference to date and we are thrilled that AU is hosting us!”

Rehearsals and special workshops for the singers will take place Friday at the Rainey Fine Arts Center and other venues on and off of the Anderson campus. Saturday is reserved for performances of all the choirs beginning at 1pm in Henderson Auditorium with the elementary school choir and ending in the evening with a sacred choir performance at Boulevard Baptist Church. The public is invited to all Saturday events.
