Anderson University has been on the forefront of incorporating mobile technology in the classroom. This summer AU is helping public, K-12 schools in South Carolina do the same.
On July 31, 40 teachers from Anderson, Spartanburg District 7, Oconee County, and Greenwood District 50 will gather on the Anderson campus to learn how to use devices such as Apple’s iPad to transform the learning experience for South Carolina children. Anderson has shown that using mobile technology creates a more engaging classroom with students retaining more of what they study when teachers employ mobile devices, such as tablet computers.
In creating The Education Improvement Act of 1984, the South Carolina General Assembly sought to fund “Centers of Excellence” in the State to foster the creation of groundbreaking initiatives by educational leaders to improve opportunities for the State’s school children. The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education has awarded $143,000 to Anderson University to establish a Center of Excellence for Mobile Learning (CEML) in order to duplicate the success of AU’s groundbreaking Mobile Learning Initiative in South Carolina Schools.
This summer’s conference marks the first conference in which AU will begin to share its groundbreaking Mobile Learning Initiative with several Upstate South Carolina school districts. AU has been working with Spartanburg District 7 initially to develop effective mobile learning platforms for teachers there.
In July’s day long training session, Anderson educators will demonstrate how to use iPads to transform the educational experience and create a more collaborative learning experience for students and teachers, taking the classroom experience outside the walls of the school and beyond the confines of a class period.
