A total of 239 diplomas (83 of which were master’s degrees) were awarded during winter commencement ceremonies at the Henderson Auditorium at Anderson University Friday evening.

The graduation ceremony featured an address from the Faculty Chair as is customary during winter graduation exercises. Dr. Bob Hanley, a long-time English professor, former Vice President of Student Development and current Vice Provost addressed the graduates.

In his address, “A column, a swing, a fountain—Life After Anderson,” Hanley urged the graduating students to consider the iconic symbols of AU as they ventured into life after college. The columns represented the support of the academic program and community that would serve them well in life, the swings represented the student community they’ve become a part of on campus and relationships that would last well into the coming years, and the fountain, the continuous presence of Christ in their lives.

“A column a swing, a fountain- may these objects you have seen so often grow to be symbols rich with the shared and vibrant memories of Anderson University, Hanley told the graduates.”

“A column, a swing, a sparkling fountain; a column, a swing, a fountain- may these objects continue to resonate with meaning in your mind and hearts in the days and years ahead.

A column, a swing, a fountain— in your life after Anderson, remember.”
