500 AU students serve in Anderson, South Carolina, on Saturday, August 24

On Saturday, August 24, more than 500 new Anderson University students are invading the Anderson area to serve the community. Each year, Anderson University students provide more than 15,000 hours of community service to the Anderson area.

Students in the mass “U-Serve” event are divided into groups of about 18 to 20 and are going to locations throughout Anderson to complete service projects.

U-Serve began at 8:30 a.m. with Mayor Terrance Roberts addressing the students from the steps of Merritt Hall on campus before they launched out into the community. Service locations include: First Baptist Church, Haven of Rest Anderson Thrift Store, Haven of Rest South Main Thrift Store, Clean Start, Anderson Christian School (ACS), South Side Baptist Church, Hope Fellowship Church, Capstone Church, The Salvation Army, The Development Center for Excellent Children (DCEC), Hospice Thrift Store A, LOT Project Cleanup, PrayerRace, Christ Church, Legacy Assisted Living, Family Promise, Crossroads Outreach, Little Steps of Anderson, Foothills Alliance, Foothills Alliance Cardboard Boat Race, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Westside Community Center, Community Clothes Closet, Anderson Area YMCA, Orrville Baptist Church, Parent Ceremony, Camp Providence, Family Connection, Living Hope, New Foundations, Homeland Park Baptist Church, and The Bridge Church.
