Fast Facts
I enjoy the Christian atmosphere, the intelligent and inquisitive students, and the small class sizes. I like to get to know my students. I also want to share my love of coding with these students to help them make their dreams come true.
I wish students knew how much even one coding class can benefit them – not only in the job market but also in their ability to problem solve in any discipline. For students entering this discipline, the possibilities are endless – they can work with any of their other interests, as there is a need for computer scientists/coders in every field. From farming to the arts, writing to security, to high-tech research, the world is open to students who can code. It is thrilling to help create the future. God, our great Creator, has given us all many gifts. If students feel the gift of wanting to create, this is definitely a career to look into. It is also usually flexible in work hours and location as well as lucrative, allowing a comfortable and enjoyable lifestyle with great career life balance.
Over the years, I have presented at various conferences as well as done workshops at a few. I have consistently supported (both through chairing, helping, and attending) a regional conference sponsored by ACM called CWIC – a conference for the Carolina’s to encourage women and minorities in the field. Here at AU, I’ve also helped develop our program from a minor to include two majors in Coding and have worked to develop and coordinate a Masters in Computer Science targeted to International, online students.
Professors often teach to enable the dreams of their students. Here at AU, I have the opportunity to do this in a strong, Christian environment. Here, God is a part of our classrooms in a special way. AU also draws intelligent and inquisitive students, and maintains a small class size and good professor/student ratios, allowing me to get to know my students. I also want to share my love of coding with these students to help them make their dreams come true.
