Fast Facts
When I was an undergraduate student at a big university and a young Christian, I was saddened by the fact that in such a large, prestigious school, there were only a couple of Christian professors. I wanted to become an influence to college-aged people, inspiring and encouraging them to grow in their academic pursuits while developing their faith.
My specific discipline (Performance) is not limited to the classical music genre. To me, the modern performance degree student is studying to be able to understand, interpret, and perform whatever music genre in any notation is presented at their highest technical and artistic ability. These diverse skills allow them to be more employable in music careers offered as a performer and/or director. The live concert stage soloist is only one of many, many possible careers.
In piano, I have been classically trained, but I have been playing jazz, latin, musical theatre, rock, and pop music for just about as many years. I have also conducted many musical theatre and opera productions, so I encourage student participation in the orchestra pit. As a performer and director, I have used music technology such as synthesizers, notation software, and digital audio workstations.
