Academic Background
Dave has spent 31 years in local law enforcement and worked in the field as a criminal investigator and SWAT team member. After moving into supervisory positions, Dave was promoted to the rank of Major and served as the Administrative Commander. The Major’s position applies executive leadership and ensures all management decisions/actions are aligned with the mission, vision and values of the organization, and in compliance with State and Federal law and the national accreditation standards established by CALEA. Dave was personally involved in the promotional process, training and the hiring of new officers for an agency employing over 650 personnel. He is also recognized as a senior-certified professional by SHRM and continues serve as an expert witness in federal court.
Before coming to Anderson University, Dave spent 10 years teaching as an adjunct professor for Clemson University. Additionally, he served for over 20 years as a law enforcement instructor for the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, the SC Police Corps, and the Carolina Institute for Community Policing.

When I saw the mission, vision, and values of the University, I knew I wanted to be part of that. Anderson University was first to establish the Command College of South Carolina, a graduate degree program for public safety professionals. Through this program, AU is continuing to have a direct impact in our state though graduates working in the field. Moreover, the University is devoted to the professional development of its undergraduate programs by blending theory with real world applications. Undergraduate students at AU have the unique opportunity to learn from accomplished instructors who have been in the field.

The students and the professionals I work with. I’ve had the opportunity to teach in a lot of classrooms around the state and Anderson University is an academic treasure in the state of South Carolina. The students here are eager to learn, and I feel a deep sense of duty to bring my best the classroom. Yes, that means our classes can be challenging at times, but we have fun. I feel fortunate and humbled to continue to have a positive impact on my profession at such a great institution.
