Fast Facts
I enjoy the family atmosphere at Anderson, where faculty, staff, and students work together in a vibrant, collegial environment seasoned by our Christian faith. I am blessed to be able to share my favorite subject with students and serve as a catalyst for their growth as writers, readers, speakers, and thinkers.
What I often say to prospective students is that English majors can do -just about-anything. We find those with degrees in English in a host of fields from writing-oriented careers to jobs in business, medicine, law, technology, and the list goes on. English majors have developed the fundamental skills needed to excel across careers because they have gained expertise as writers, readers, speakers, skills in leadership and collaboration, and most importantly. how to learn and acquire other skills that launch them into new directions.
2025 – Received the Frances Mims Ambassador Award from the Foothills Writers Guild for outstanding contributions to the support and promotion of writing; 2015 – Presented the Fowler-McKaskill Lifetime Achievement Award from the South Carolina Council of Teachers of English for work in support of the teaching of English He has secured several grants, including $400,00 from HUD for community improvement and $30,000 from the SC Highway Safety Department.
I find one of the most enjoyable rewards of teaching at Anderson is watching our freshman students begin their academic journey with us and witness their growth in knowledge and understanding of their subjects over four years. Yet, most importantly, during this same time, I find great joy in witnessing their spiritual growth through a deepening faith and trust in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
