“Matriculation” is the formal word to describe a student enrolling at a college or university. Part of the way we observe and celebrate this rite of passage is to gather for a worship service to seek God’s blessing for the ensuing academic year. Due to a record number of incoming students, we are hosting two Matriculation Worship Services on August 18.
Students attending Base Camp on Friday along with students moving in on Friday morning will attend the 6:00 PM service in the Abney Athletic Center. Following this service, students will be guided to Thrift Library where they will join their classmates for the Archway Walk ceremony, which will begin at 7 PM. Guests will make their way from Abney to the Front Lawn for this ceremony.
Students moving in on Friday afternoon should make their way to Thrift Library no later than 6:45 PM for the Archway Walk. Family members are asked to gather on the Front Lawn for the 7 PM ceremony. Following the Archway Walk, a second Matriculation Worship Service will be held at 8 PM in the Abney Athletic Center for students and their guests who moved in on Friday afternoon.
These two very special traditions, which mark the beginning of a student’s journey at Anderson University, will serve as the culmination of each student’s move-in day and the official start of their college career at Anderson as a member of the Trojan Family.
We invite all new students and guests to join their AU community as we give thanks to God for His good provision, receive a message of inspiration and encouragement, and pray for the coming year. We realize that resident students and their families will have spent the day moving in, so this is a “come as you are” event.
