Mount Pleasant is a rapidly growing suburb of Charleston. Captain Pat Carter of the Mount Pleasant Police Department feels that the Command College of South Carolina, within the Anderson University School of Public Service and Administration, has equipped him well as he works to protect and serve an ever growing area.
How did you choose to study at Anderson University?
I had two friends (Carl Ritchie and Greg Griggs) that were in prior cohorts and recommended the program highly. In looking at the format of the program and what they had to offer, it was the perfect fit for working and pursuing my degree at the same time.
What are some ways that your Anderson University education has helped you professionally and in other areas of your life?
The research methods and the networking have proven themselves useful numerous times already. The campus and feel was good at reducing stress of the experience and provides a good Christian recentering each month.
Tell me about your experience in law enforcement.
Highlighting your work in law enforcement - I have 25 years in law enforcement. I have served as a patrol officer, traffic officer, training officer and then worked my way up to Captain over Operations. I have been in charge of many large events. Some of my best time has been spent training and mentoring officers and also youth in the Explorer program.
What is something unique/noteworthy about your journey to what you’re doing now?
I feel it is important to stay with the mindset that I am a police officer first and foremost.
