Annual Conference of the Kim S. Miller Family Enterprise Institute of South Carolina Taking Place November 7

Lisa Cooper, president of Mast General Store, will be keynote speaker for the annual conference of the Kim S. Miller Family Enterprise Institute of South Carolina.

The Kim S. Miller Family Enterprise Institute of South Carolina at Anderson University is pleased to announce its Annual Conference, which will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the University Center of Greenville. This year’s theme, “Navigating Change: Navigating Transitions in the Family Enterprise,” promises to deliver valuable insights and strategies for family-owned businesses facing the complexities of change. 

“We are honored to welcome Lisa Cooper, president of Mast General Store, as our keynote speaker,” said Dr. Brad Bechtold, executive director of the Kim S. Miller Family Enterprise Institute. “Cooper brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective on managing change within a family enterprise. Her leadership and innovative approaches have been instrumental in steering Mast General Store through various transitions, making her an inspirational figure in the family business community.”

With a rich history dating back to 1883 in Valle Crucis, North Carolina, Mast General Store is a beloved staple in the retail industry. It is well known for its commitment to quality, community, customer service and its unique blend of merchandise, including outdoor gear, apparel and old-fashioned candies.  

The family-employee-owned company has since grown into a family of stores that retain the charm and feel of an old-fashioned general store. With a focus on community involvement and customer satisfaction, Mast General Store has become a cherished destination for shoppers throughout the Southeast 

The conference will feature a series of interactive sessions and panel discussions with industry experts, focusing on best practices and real-world examples of successful change management in family enterprises. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with peers, share experiences and gain practical tools to navigate their own business transitions. 

“We are excited to bring together family business leaders and professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by change,” said Dr. Bechtold. “With Lisa Cooper as our keynote speaker, we are confident that participants will leave inspired and equipped with actionable strategies to manage transitions in the family enterprise effectively.” 

The conference will take place at the University Center of Greenville, 225 S Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville and will run from 8 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.
