Teaching at AU

What year did you start teacing at AU?

2007

How would you describe your classes to someone who has never attended one?

In flute lessons, I use a lesson assignment sheet with 5 categories: tone, scales, technique, etude, and solo. Each week students are assigned something for each category. We always sightread at the end of every lesson and play a duet. I prefer a laidback atmosphere, yet I expect a lot from my students.

I teach applied flute lessons, pedagogy and literature. I also direct the flute choir and woodwind quintet when needed.

I teach at AU because it is home to me. I loved being a student at AU and I love that I have the privilege of returning to teach at my alma mater.

I enjoy the relationships I build with my students at AU. I am still in touch with most of my former students and keep up with their careers. Also, I just really love teaching flute. Students inspire me and I love to see how they progress during the four years that we work together.

In addition to teaching at AU, I teach band and library at Greenwood Christian School.

I am the principal flute of the GAMAC Chamber Ensemble and the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. I also play regularly at my church and other churches in the upstate.

I have played flute, recorder, and tin whistle for various recording artists, including Lori Sealy, Nick Farr, Laurie Thompson, and the North Side Worship Team.
