West Nile Virus

Local authorities has reported the presence of the West Nile Virus in South Carolina, including Anderson County. The West Nile Virus is mosquito borne virus and for some individuals has been known to cause illness, sometime serious in nature.

Out of an abundance of caution, Anderson County Emergency Management will spray for mosquitos in areas directly adjacent to campus properties near the Athletic Campus and the Heritage Village Townhomes.  This spraying will commence at 8:00 PM this evening and will be repeated at 8:00 PM tomorrow, Saturday, September 23. Our main campus is outside of the targeted area but the aforementioned areas are inside the area to be sprayed.

Emergency Management recommends that residents in this spray area avoid being outdoors for prolonged periods between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. for each of these days.  Students and employees can resume normal outdoor activities in these areas after 8:00 a.m. each day.

Please see this public service announcement developed to educate South Carolinians about how to prevent mosquito-borne diseases like the West Nile Virus.
