COVID-19 UPDATES

Anderson University Announces Changes to University Operations

March 11, 2020

The health, safety and well-being of Anderson University faculty, staff and students is the University’s top priority.

Out of an abundance of caution, President Evans Whitaker announced today the University is suspending all undergraduate seated and hybrid classes for the week beginning Monday, March 16, as a result of the ongoing spread of COVID-19 throughout the United States. Online classes already scheduled will continue as normal, including during the week of March 16.

There are no known cases of COVID-19 on the Anderson University campus.

Next week, March 15-22, will essentially be an extension of Spring Break.

Beginning Monday, March 23, all undergraduate seated and hybrid courses will convert to online learning environments for at least one week, and perhaps longer, depending on the progression of the COVID-19 outbreak. Students will hear directly from their deans and/or professors as to how online classes will operate.

In the meantime, the Anderson University COVID-19 task force will continue meeting regularly and remain in daily contact with federal, state and local health and emergency management officials. The task force will recommend actions that will best safeguard the Anderson University family.

While the best practice is for students off campus for Spring Break remain off campus, students who live on campus may choose to remain, or return, depending on their individual needs. For these students, campus will remain open but with reduced services.

Student Life activities are cancelled while the suspension is in effect. This includes Campus Worship, CEP events and formal or informal large-group gatherings. Students on campus will be required to practice social distancing, and those in residence halls will not be allowed to visit students in other rooms or congregate in common spaces. Dining services will be modified and/or limited (for example, Aramark prepackaged and/or carry-out may be used) until normal operations resume. All athletic events will continue as planned, but subject to change depending on decisions made by the NCAA and the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). Some athletic events may limit spectators.

Protocols for limiting exposure to illness remain in effect and will be enforced by Residence Life staff. Those who are sick with any illness should self-quarantine and contact their medical service provider for advice and care.

While Residence Life staff members are trained to support the students on campus, neither they, nor the Anderson University Thrive Wellness Center, are equipped to treat those with a serious illness. Students who live on campus will receive full details directly from Residence Life.

Anderson University faculty, staff and students should continue to monitor our dedicated COVID-19 landing page at andersonuniversity.edu/COVID-19 for the latest information and resources. The page also contains a “Frequently Asked Questions” section for those who need additional information. For more information, please call the Student Life office at 864-622-6011.

The Anderson University administration recognizes the unique burden this suspension places on its campus community as a result of COVID-19. Now, as ever, we appreciate your understanding—and ask for your prayers—as together we work to protect our community.
