Information Security Specialist
Anderson University’s Office of Information Technology invites applications for the role of Information Security Specialist. The Information Security Specialist reports to the Director of Information Security and Compliance and is responsible for assisting with the institution’s information security program. The Information Security Specialist provides a variety of operational, compliance, and consultative functions to enable safe and secure information services across the University. This individual will help design, implement, manage, and monitor administrative and physical controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the university’s information assets. Duties will include network security monitoring and incident response, vulnerability and security management as well as risk analysis and providing security awareness training. Responsibilities also include working with system owners to ingest logs into data analytics tools, correlation, and visualization of the log data, setting up alerts for security incidents, and creating and documenting procedures around security monitoring and incident response.
Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and two year’s relevant experience. Preference will be given to applicants with working knowledge of Kali Linux, Microsoft Security, and other cyber-security related tools. Experience using network and system diagnostic tools and basic experience with scripting, programming, or automation methods is required. Strong oral and verbal communication skills to write reports, train staff and collaborate with other members of the team. Multitasking skills to complete tasks while monitoring data systems and ability to prioritize work and adjust to rapidly changing requirements and demands. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills are needed to respond appropriately to immediate or potential threats. Research skills required to keep abreast of the latest malware threats and developments in IT security. Must be available to work 40 hours each week and may require off-hour support to respond to security incidents.
