What is Student Employment?
Anderson University employs nearly 500 students across campus. These student employees assist various offices across campus. On-campus jobs are a great opportunity for students to offset the cost of schooling, get plugged-in on campus, explore career interests, and develop skills essential for success in the workplace.
Am I eligible to be a student employee?
To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at AU at least part-time and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress, including a 2.0 GPA. New students are eligible for employment the term before they start school once they pre-register for classes. Students are not eligible for employment after graduation.
Where can I search available on-campus jobs?
Anderson University students now have access to Handshake, where campus offices post open applications for on-campus and off-campus positions. Set up your Handshake account to begin your job search today.
How do I apply?
Once you have set up your account on Handshake, you can search for jobs that have been posted on-campus. Simply filter your search by On Campus Student Employment. You can then upload a copy of your resume and cover letter to job postings for offices to review.
Once I am selected, what are the next steps?
Once you are selected by a hiring office, a supervisor will submit a hiring request. Once this request is received, you will receive an email with a link to sign up for a training session. At this session you will set-up your direct deposit, complete tax and employee verification forms, and review student employee policy and procedures. Once your hiring paperwork is complete, you will receive an email that you are cleared to work. You may not begin working until you receive this email.
How will I get paid?
Pay is determined by a job’s requirements as well as student qualifications. Each of our student employees make no less than the minimum wage for South Carolina. Students are paid on the 15th of each month through direct deposit. You can access your past pay statements here.
When can I work?
During the school year, student employees can work up to 20 hours per week in total. If working during a break when classes are not in session, students can work up to 40 hours per week. Students are prohibited from working during their scheduled class times.
How do I submit my timesheets?
Students are responsible for submitting a monthly timesheet to Student Employment no later than the first working day of the following month. Instructions on how to fill out a monthly timesheet as well as monthly timesheet templates can be found here.
Am I eligible for benefits?
Student employees are not eligible for benefits, including paid time off.
Why work on campus?
Working at AU gives students a unique opportunity to connect on-campus while gaining experience that will benefit them in their future careers. On-campus work schedules are more likely to accommodate their ever-changing class schedules. Students who reside on campus have the added benefit of working in close proximity to where they live.
Federal Work Study
To participate in the Federal Work-Study Program, students must be enrolled half time in a degree-seeking program, complete a FAFSA, and qualify based on financial need. Students are not allowed to work during a scheduled class period and must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
