The Anderson University COVID-19 Task Force is providing guidance to students prior to their return for the spring, 2021 semester on campus.

You made it! You faced, and conquered, the challenges presented by a year like no other.

2020 is behind us…but the journey is not yet complete.

The COVID-19 pandemic is still a significant challenge, and could affect Anderson University’s ability to remain open throughout the academic year. In many ways, the spring semester is our most critical moment, one we must face together.

Right now, you are most likely making last-minute preparations for your return to AU. As you do so, the COVID-19 Task Force is asking that you keep the following in mind:

  • The Journey Ahead protocols put in place prior to the fall semester were broadly effective in keeping faculty, staff and students healthy and safe. That’s why the Task Force is keeping them in place. Although you likely know them by heart, they bear repeating: Wear a mask or face covering. Maintain physical distancing of at least six feet at all times. Report any signs of illness, and do not come to campus if you have any symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has. Practice proper hand hygiene.

  • There is one significant change: the Task Force is strongly recommending all students be tested for COVID-19 prior to returning to campus. To find a testing location and instructions for securing your own test, visit the websites for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control  (SCDHEC) or, for out-of-state students, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC). To be clear, this is not a requirement, but public health experts on the Task Force, along with those from SCDHEC, recommend students be tested prior to their return from the holiday break. This is a responsible step you can take to care for your fellow Trojans.

All of us are experiencing COVID-19 fatigue. It’s to be expected, and it’s understandable. But it comes with unfortunate consequences. Case in point? We experienced less-than-ideal compliance with Journey Ahead protocols toward the end of last semester. It would be a shame if we allowed complacency to derail our efforts now.

It’s time to recommit to being stronger together. To caring for one another. To loving others more than we love ourselves. You’ve done it before. Let’s do it again.

Are you ready to take the next step? We can’t wait to share the Journey Ahead with you.
