University Increases Investment in Lifelong Learning

Anderson University is adding more continuous learning experiences with professional-credit offerings for those seeking additional training or skill development. The goal is to help adult learners enhance their current employment experience, pursue new career pathways, or just explore new ideas with fellow community members.

“In addition to our array of strong online and blended academic undergraduate and graduate programs for post-traditional learners, we offer relevant professional development workshops, on-demand training and customized experiences for those who may not need a full degree,” said Dr. Josh Herron, dean of Online and Continuous Learning.

The recent restructuring of non-credit professional development programs under the Online and Continuous Learning unit creates new opportunities for Anderson University to serve the community’s workforce development needs. Local employer Carolina Auto Auction recently invested in professional-credit training for their team members using AU’s professional-credit courses. 

“We found immediate benefit in our partnership with Anderson University,” representatives said. “The training sessions helped our management team reach a new level of excellence.”

Professional and lifelong learning is developing in a number of ways at the University. Throughout the year, professional development events cover current topics and relevant information in business, education, and healthcare. Further, on-demand learning experiences are available now through a partnership with MindEdge. Categories of courses include agile project management, data analytics, Six Sigma, Lean and more. Where applicable, CEU/PDUs or recertification credits are awarded based on the profession for these in-person and on-demand learning experiences.

Most recently, the Lifelong Learning Institute became part of the Online and Continuous Learning unit with Andria Carpenter becoming Director of Professional of Lifelong Learning. 

“Anderson University embraces the value of all learning and desires to be the first place our greater community considers when a need for learning is discovered,” Carpenter said. “Providing reflective opportunities to engage with others of like mind and experience encourages participation among learners of all ages and supports engagement throughout the lifespan.” 

Nancy Hanley took the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) to new heights over the past few years, and the LLI Board and Advisory Council are invested in seeing high-quality programming for all community members. Annual memberships in LLI are available and provide discounts to local companies.

All of these opportunities are in addition to custom training to meet an organization's unique needs based on the university’s reputation as a provider of quality learning and our ability to manage instructional endeavors and award professional development credit.
