Substitute Library Assistant

Anderson University and the Thrift Library invite applications for a Substitute Library Assistant. This position serves as a substitute for library personnel who are unable to work their regular shifts and/or to provide support for short-term needs. Job responsibilities for the Substitute Library Assistant include:

● Supervise the circulation desk, main floor, and second floor.

● Provide access services, which can include circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, stack maintenance, room scheduling, facility maintenance, security, and opening/closing of the library.

● Process physical library acquisitions and discards.

● Assist with weeding and inventory of the library’s collections.

● Supervise and provide direction to student employees.

● Provide on-demand individualized reference assistance to students, staff, and faculty.

Qualified candidates will hold an associate degree or equivalent of two years of college; a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience working in a library and/or certification or coursework in library science is preferred. A high level of comfort and proficiency with technology and an ability to learn and adapt to new technologies is required. The ability to work independently, prioritize among multiple competing projects, manage complex workflows, and sustain a high level of attention to detail is essential.
