Spain and Portugal

Semester: Spring 2018

Course Information: 3 credits – General Education

Course Title: IS 398 – Spain and Portugal: An Examination of Fine Art, Food, Family, and Festivities

Course Description: This class will review Spain and Portugal’s culture, people, and history. When you choose to study abroad in Spain and Portugal, you choose to do so in beautiful countries with one hand firmly rooted in the past and one reaching confidently toward the future. Spain and Portugal have preserved and restored their most beloved historical buildings, communities, and landmarks. They have a warm culture with a devotion to the development of highly effective modern infrastructure. This balance is evident in their reputations as both historic and global cities. Students will be experiencing culture that involves art, technology, business, music, and fashion intertwined with tried, treasured, and true historic architecture, arts, and culture. The results are countries of vibrant ambiance and beautiful scenery, people, and language.

Travel Dates: May 13-22, 2018

Price: $3,565.00

Housing/Accommodations: Local hotels

General Travel Itinerary: Students will use an online virtual field trip program to make discoveries about the locations we plan to visit. They can take notes on the places in their travel journals and create a sample travel itinerary.

Eligibility Requirements: Students must be eligible juniors or seniors (at least a 2.5 GPA) who have not attended a previous AU Abroad program.

Scholarship: Scholarships are awarded to reduce the cost for travel, which is an additional fee from tuition and fees, and charged as part of student’s registration for program. To be eligible for the AU Abroad scholarship of up to $1,000.00, students must be a junior or senior. Scholarship amount depends upon GPA, class standing and financial need. (Sophomore nursing students can apply for the grant due to their academic schedule.)
