AU Trojan

The South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University offers several options for students who enjoy making music in a choir.  Anderson University’s choirs sing everything from great choral masterworks to spirituals, gospel music, and popular songs.  While some groups focus on a specialized repertoire, most sing a variety of styles over the course of the year.  Our outstanding choral directors work with the members of their groups to create the best possible choral experience for all.

Our choirs include:

Joining a choir

Any AU student may participate in any choir for which he or she qualifies.  For some groups, membership is open. Auditions simply determine the student’s part placement. Auditions for more selective ensembles include additional requirements. A limited number of choir members receive choral scholarships.

Current students should contact the directors of groups in which they would like to sing for entrance requirements.  Email addresses are provided at the pages linked above.

Prospective students interested in a choral scholarship or in participating in an advanced group, please attend one of AU’s Ensemble Audition Days the year before you register as a student.  If necessary, you may arrange an individual audition time by contacting Dr. Richard A. Williamson at

Credit for music and non-music majors

Music ensembles are participation classes that count toward graduation (1-hour laboratory courses). Non-music majors can meet a general education requirement by completing 3 semesters of an approved ensemble.  They can apply additional ensemble credits toward elective hours.  Participation in University Choir, Women’s Choir, or Concert Choir fulfills the primary ensemble requirement for music majors, music minors, and others who are required to participate in a choir. Participation in other groups fulfills the secondary ensemble requirement for any music major.
