About the Program
Anderson University's School of Interior Design teaches students how to create environments that protect the health and safety of its occupants. You'll learn to design for homes and commercial spaces. You'll explore what to consider in planning interior space from a children's hospital or high-end resort to a church or school.
Essential preparation
The School of Interior Design offers the BA in Interior Design, one of only nine Christian schools in the country with this program. Graduates of our program thank us for giving them not only the knowledge to pass the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NICDQ) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Associate exam but for instilling within them an exceptional work ethic to excel within the field.
To become a major
To become an interior design major at AU, you must pass two art foundations classes and six introductory, interior design classes, including Introduction to Interior Design, Architectural Drawing and Graphics I and II, and Foundations of Interior Design. Through these classes you'll begin to learn the professional values and technical knowledge that are essential for today's designers. Review of your portfolio, your progress and evolution within the discipline, and passage of the introductory courses open the door to your future study within the School.
Advanced coursework and Christian influence
Your advanced coursework will build upon your foundations in the values and knowledge of the field and develop your technical know-how in building codes, designing for the physically challenged, visually impaired and hearing impaired, and using the latest releases of building design and 3D modeling software applications. We also emphasize your ability to generate multiple concepts that can be developed and synthesized into strong design solutions. In addition to the warmth, inspiration, and camaraderie of just being a student in AU's Christian community, you'll graduate understanding our faith's implication upon our professional conduct and promotion of sustainability.
Access to influential designers, employers
We'll connect you. From internship opportunities in New York City and Miami to regular school trips to design centers, firms and museums in Greenville, Atlanta and Charlotte, you'll have access to award-wining and influential designers and employers.
American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)
You'll become part of a very active chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), whose faculty advisor was recently named Faculty Advisor of the Year by the national organization, and whose members win national and regional design competition scholarships.
Your future as a designer
Our graduates, who've won numerous awards, enter top grad programs, work internationally, and have been featured on cable's HGTV and Bravo, also will help you grow and seize opportunities.
AU's rigorous interior design program will prepare you to work as a designer in many settings including within an architectural firm, residential design firm, health-care facility or interior design firm. You'll also be equipped to work as architectural journalist or account executive for an interior manufacturer.
