AU Abroad has full semester programs in Australia, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, New Zealand, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, The Netherlands, and Uganda. Students are required to obtain approval from the Center for Global Engagement, Anderson Central, and Academic Affairs before departure. The Center for Global Engagement will assist you with the application process.

Most students study abroad during their junior year, however it is up to your preference as well as the best time depending upon your academic major. Most students study abroad and take elective as well as core courses. Major courses can be approved with your Dean’s approval. Each major has different requirements for degree completion. Please visit the Center for Global Engagement to learn more about the best time for you to study abroad. Working together with your faculty advisor, we can help determine a time that is suitable for you.

The length of time you study abroad and number of credits you enroll in can impact cost. For summer programs we allow you to register at Anderson University and use federal aid for approved programs. Please be advised that for semester study abroad programs, we charge full-time Anderson tuition, fees, room, and board. If the price for the study abroad program is higher, we charge that rate. Federal and state aid can be used for semester programs. Anderson University institutional aide cannot be used for semester abroad programs. You can use institutional aid for one of our exchange programs offered in Germany, Croatia, or the Netherlands.

Therefore, the cost for study abroad varies depending upon if you are interested in a summer, short-term, or semester program. Contact an advisor in the Center for Global Engagement for assistance. We can help you estimate the cost of attendance as well as give you recommendations and suggestions to help you research outside scholarships as well.

Students who study abroad in the summer normally take anywhere from 6 to 9 credits. There are some study abroad programs that even offer international internships. Some students study abroad in the summer to learn a new language, for cultural immersion, or to take academic credits in a different educational system. The Center for Global Engagement can help find a program that suits your unique needs.

For Anderson University students who want to use the most of their awarded financial aid, we recommend researching our approved exchange programs. Students can use all of their institutional aid, federal, and state aid when studying abroad for a full semester on an approved exchange. The three exchange programs we currently offer are in Croatia, The Netherlands, and Germany. Please see Study Abroad Locations page for links to the exchange programs we offer. Students must apply and be accepted for the exchange programs. The Center for Global Engagement will help you estimate the cost of attendance as well as assist you apply for the exchange program.

Anderson University also offers full semester classes with short term international travel, called AU Abroad. These classes are faculty led study abroad programs that allow the entire class to study abroad together, anywhere from 10 to 14 days in another country. AU Abroad is a popular option for those who want to experience study abroad with Anderson University faculty and students.

To determine what financial aid can be used, you should first select a study abroad program as well as determine the semester you wish to study abroad. Together with your faculty advisor, the Center for Global Engagement can help you select a program, and time to study abroad that is perfect for you.

In addition, the Center for Global Engagement works with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to help estimate the financial aid you will receive. We also determine the estimated cost of attendance for your study abroad program. This offers students a clear understanding of the financial cost of studying abroad and helps students prepare to save for their program.

Please note: Only study abroad programs that are approved for credit by Anderson University (the home institution) may be considered enrollment at the home institution for purposes of applying for assistance under Title IV, HEA programs (federal aid) as per Title IV [34 C.F.R. § 668.43(a)(9)].
