Dr. T. Walter Brashier
Dr. T. Walter Brashier was born in 1934 and raised on a farm in Greenville County. He grew up understanding the importance of hard work as he began picking cotton at age 6 and working for local farmers. At 16, he went to work at Jones Mortuary, which he eventually owned with two partners.
While working full-time, he attended Furman University and earned his bachelor’s degree in three years. After Furman he pursued graduate study at Southeastern Theological Seminary and Erskine Theological Seminary. Dr. Brashier received honorary doctorate degrees from Charleston Southern University and North Greenville University. In 2008, he received the Order of the Palmetto from South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.
For many years, Dr. Brashier traveled across America preaching in revivals. As part of his ministry, he had a nationwide radio and television show called You Are on Target with Walter Brashier.
He was one of the largest apartment builders in the Southeast, building and owning several thousand apartment units. In 1987, he sold 2,300 units to the Krupp Group. At that time, this transaction was reported to be the largest residential sale to ever take place in South Carolina.
In addition to building apartments, he has built and owned several million square feet of warehousing and manufacturing facilities, office complexes, shopping centers and has retained a portfolio of several hundred acres of prime commercial property.
He was co-owner of RealtiCorp, a real estate investment company, through which he bought and sold commercial real estate for his own portfolio. RealtiCorp has offices across the Southeast. In addition to owning a real estate company, he also owned one of the largest airline servicing companies in the United States, serving the airline industry from Florida to California.
Dr. Brashier believes strongly in higher education and particularly in Christian higher education. He is married to Christine Brashier, his teenage sweetheart and a former Anderson student, and has four children. Dr. and Mrs. Brashier are members of Scenic Hills Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, where his son is the pastor.
