Speech title: "The Only Graduation Speech You Should Remember"
Anderson, SC 29621
You’ve looked forward to this day for a long time—graduation day. It’s an exciting moment, and a day full of details. Below is the information you need to make graduation day stress-free and enjoyable.
Parking in front of Watkins Hall will be reserved for guests with limited mobility. Campus Safety will provide shuttle service to assist those with difficulty walking.
Parking lots are located behind the Boulevard dorms on Boulevard, behind the Thrift Library and Rainey Fine Arts Center on Kingsley Street, and adjacent to the Abney Athletic Center on Calhoun Street. The lots behind Thrift Library and Rainey are closest to the graduation venue.
Order of Ceremony
At 6:00 p.m., the graduates process into Henderson Auditorium. The ceremony opens with the tolling of the University Bell, followed by an invocation, a hymn, and a welcome from the president, after which special awards and recognition are conferred. The commencement speaker then addresses the graduates, followed by the conferring of honorary degrees and the roll call of graduating students. To conclude the ceremony, graduates and attendees sing AU’s alma mater, “The Sounds of Anderson,” and a closing benediction is offered.
Commencement is a formal occasion. Graduates should dress for a business appointment or a traditional church service.
Reception & Refreshments
Following the ceremony, graduates, professors, family, and friends are encouraged to attend a reception in the banquet hall in the G. Ross Anderson Jr. Student Center.
Individual formal photos are taken of the graduates as they receive their diplomas and as they exit the stage. These photos are available for purchase online at www.gradimages.com. Family and friends are also welcome to take photos as graduates file into the auditorium and when graduates receive their diplomas. The reception following commencement is also a good opportunity for taking photos.
Etiquette & Safety
During the roll call of graduates, audience members are requested to hold applause until all graduates’ names have been read. This is done to ensure that every graduate’s name is heard. Families and friends of graduates are invited to stand when their graduate’s name is read.
Noisemakers are prohibited, as well as signage that impedes the view of other attendees. Tobacco, alcohol, fireworks, and weapons are also prohibited.
Anderson University automatically sends graduate names and degrees to the student’s hometown newspaper.
For questions or concerns about commencement, please contact Anderson University at 864-231-2000 or 1-800-542-3594 and ask for the Office of the Registrar.
